La plus grande chasse au trésor de France a peut-être pris fin la nuit du mercredi 2 octobre 2024. La Chouette d'Or est une immense chasse au trésor lancée en mai 1993 par Régis Hauser avec l'artiste Michel Becker. Il enterre une petite statuette de chouette en bronze et publie un livre contenant 11 énigmes pour la retrouver. Le sujet a vite passionné les gens : le livre, imprimé à 50 000 exemplaires, a réuni une communauté qui s'est ensuite déplacée sur Internet, via des forums et des sites de fans. Près de 200 000 personnes se sont intéressées de près ou de loin à la Chouette d'Or depuis son lancement, sans succès jusqu'à aujourd'hui tellement les énigmes étaient difficiles. Ces dernières années, un Discord a été créé et l'organisateur a commencé à donner quelques indices pour aider la communauté à avancer. C'est d'ailleurs un administrateur de ce Discord qui a annoncé que la chouette avait été découverte, 31 ans après le début de la chasse au trésor. Mais la découverte doit encore être confirmée : l'organisateur doit vérifier que la méthode utilisée pour trouver la chouette correspond bien aux énigmes et qu'il ne s'agit pas d'un coup de chance. Le gros lot ? La petite chouette en bronze sera échangée contre une vraie statuette en or, décorée de rubis et de diamants, pour une valeur estimée à 100 000 €.
