Kosovo and Serbia's leaders visit Brussels for talks with their European counterparts on calming tensions, with Aleksandar Vucic, president of Serbia, Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti arriving for a meeting with European Council President Charles Michel, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. The talks come just days after an European Union envoy, as well as diplomats from the United States, France, Germany and Italy visited both Belgrade and Pristina, for top-level talks over the issue. Black smoke rises into the sky beside the court building where Ousmane Sonko is standing trial for defamation. Police are on standby outside the court after Sonko held an authorised rally the day before, where he urged thousands of supporters to come en masse to back him on the day of the trial. Ousmane Sonko is being tried for allegedly defaming a minister, a case that could determine whether he will be eligible to run in presidential elections next February. Sonko's supporters say President Macky Sall is using the judiciary as a means to sideline him for the vote, a charge Sall denies. IMAGES
Angolan president, Joao Lourenco, hosts talks in Luanda to discuss the rising tensions in eastern DRC with their neighbours, Rwanda. Several heads of state can be seen arriving, including the President of Burundi and former president of Kenya. Paul Kagame, the Rwandan president was not in attendance, instead Vincent Biruta, minister for foreign affairs represented the country at the summit. Eastern DRC has witnessed fierce fighting in recent months between Congolese troops and the M23 rebel group, prompting the East African Community (EAC) bloc to deploy a joint regional force to quell the violence.
