Massive general strike takes effect in Tunisia

The secretary general of Tunisia's powerful UGTT trade union, Noureddine Taboubi, gives a speech in front of a crowd gathered in front of the union's headquarters in Tunis, as a major strike took effect in the country Thursday. The Tunisian General Labour Union, the UGTT, called on public sector employees to observe the strike -- the second since November -- to demand a wage rise and economic reforms. IMAGES
