On a visit to the Philippine Coast Guard headquarters in Manila, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida boards a Japan-made BRP Teresa Magbanua ship with commandant Admiral Ronnie Gavan. Japan is committed to helping "improve the Philippines maritime law enforcement capability including the provision of patrol vessels and defence equipment and technology cooperation," according to a speech Kishida made at the Philippine presidential palace on November 3. Images show the Panama-registered carrier ship Fremantle Highway, which is carrying 3,000 cars and caught fire off the Dutch coast on Tuesday night as it travelled to Egypt from Germany. The ship, still on fire at 17:00 CET, is filmed from Buren Strand, Ameland Island – a popular holiday destination in the Waddenzee Netherlands, which is also a UNESCO World Heritage site. Fears have been raised over environmental pollution as authorities warn that the fire could burn for days and threaten nearby natural sites. It is suspected that an electric car was behind the fire. A very large crude carrier the Nautica, which is part of a coordinated operation to remove oil from the FSO Safer, sits in Yemeni waters. In the coming days, an operation is expected to begin pumping 1.14 million barrels of crude oil to the Nautica from the FSO Safer, a rusting 47-year-old ship that the UN describes as a "ticking time bomb".
