Popocatepetl, a volcano southeast of the Mexican capital considered one of the most dangerous in the world, spews more gas and ash into the sky as authorities maintain their warning level at one step below red alert. IMAGES
Travelers wait at the Mexico City International Airport, where 22 flights were canceled due to an ash cloud from the Popocatepetl volcano. Authorities have warned ash is likely to fall in the states of Morelos, Puebla and Mexico, as well as in Mexico City, which lies some 55 miles (90 kilometers) from the volcano. IMAGES
The Cumbre Vieja volcano, on the Spanish Canary island of La Palma, spews lava and smoke. The eruption has left at least 870 buildings of all types completely destroyed and prompted the evacuation of around 6,000 people. IMAGES
Mount Sinabung spews hot ash and smoke into the sky in Karo, North Sumatra in Indonesia. Sinabung, a 2,460-metre volcano, was dormant for centuries before roaring back to life in 2010 when an eruption killed two people.
