La vidéosurveillance algorithmique (VSA) est bien partie pour être pérennisée en France. Le Premier ministre Michel Barnier se dit en faveur d’une généralisation de caméras utilisant des algorithmiques pour surveiller l’espace public. Cela, sans vraiment attendre le rapport d’évaluation prévu pour la fin de l’année. Ainsi, le provisoire devient permanent, et l’expérimental, la règle. De toute évidence, la plaidoirie du préfet de police de Paris en faveur de la vidéo surveillance algorithmique (VSA) a été entendue. À l’occasion de sa déclaration de politique générale, le 1er octobre, le Premier ministre Michel Barnier a souhaité la « généralisation de la méthode expérimentée pendant les Jeux olympiques ». Selon les informations de France Info, Michel Barnier a bien fait référence ici à la VSA, qui consiste à combiner des caméras de vidéosurveillance situées dans l’espace public avec des algorithmes d’intelligence artificielle (IA). Selon le préfet Laurent Nuñez, le bilan de cette combinaison inédite est « positif » et la technologie « a démontré son utilité ».
