Vigili del Fuoco rescue boats with divers are returning to shore after carrying out fresh searches for six people, including UK tech tycoon Mike Lynch and the chairman of Morgan Stanley International, missing since their yacht capsized off the Italian island of Sicily. The 56-metre British-flagged sailing yacht "Bayesian" was anchored some 700 metres from port with 10 crew and 12 passengers on board when it was struck by a waterspout, a sort of mini tornado, before dawn on Monday. The French authorities are close to the site of an accident involving two French army Rafale aircraft to conduct search operations for the two missing pilots. Two Rafale fighter jets collided in northeastern France on Wednesday, with one pilot ejecting himself, while an instructor and a student pilot remain missing. IMAGES
Eight people including two children have been killed by mountains of garbage collapsing at a landfill in the Ugandan capital Kampala, the city authority has said. Local media says homes, people and livestock animals were engulfed in the landslide at the vast garbage dump in Kiteezi, a district in the north of Kampala, after heavy rainfall. IMAGES
