French Secretary of State for Economy and Finance Agnès Pannier-Runacher arrives at a Smart factory in Hambach, France where she is meant to meet with union representatives. Citing financial hardship related to Covid-19, the German group Daimler, which owns Mercedes and Smart, announced in July their desire to sell the factory that employs some 1,600 people. IMAGES

Around 300 employees at the Smart factory in Hambach in eastern France symbolically stop work while an extraordinary social and economic committee (CSE) is held.
