EU launches DMA regulation on big tech titans 'as of midnight'

Description

The EU's landmark curbs on how tech titans do business online kicks in from March 7th. "As of midnight, the gatekeepers are required to prove that they are complying with the DMA (Digital Markets Act)", says Johannes Bahrke, EU spokesperson. Brussels is determined to create a more competitive online field that allows smaller players to flourish by ushering in a list of do's and don'ts for six so-called "gatekeepers" designated by the EU: Apple, Amazon, Google owner Alphabet, TikTok parent ByteDance, Meta and Microsoft.
