Le quatrième vol d’essai du Starship a permis à SpaceX de boucler une nouvelle avancée : faire revenir de façon maîtrisée le premier étage de sa fusée géante dans l’océan. Le moment est historique pour SpaceX. Pour la première fois dans l’histoire du développement du Starship, le premier étage de la fusée a réussi à faire un amerrissage contrôlé lors de son retour sur Terre. Ce « splashdown », qui s’est déroulé un peu plus de 7 minutes après le décollage du lanceur, a eu lieu dans le golfe du Mexique. La clameur qui s’est élevée dans le centre de contrôle de SpaceX et le vif enthousiasme des présentatrices commentant le direct témoignent du cap que SpaceX vient de franchir le jeudi 6 juin. Quant à l’étage supérieur de la fusée, alors en vol à ce moment-là, c’est aussi un succès. Lors du précédent vol, survenu à la mi-mars, des difficultés avaient surgi lors de toute la séquence avant le « splashdown ». Les moteurs n’ont pas fonctionné comme prévu, ce qui a perturbé le retour du Super Heavy — le nom donné au premier étage de la fusée. Finalement, le Super Heavy a été perdu à 462 mètres au-dessus de la mer.

Britain's economy will rebound this year and not shrink as initially thought, but will grow far less than expected next year, finance minister Jeremy Hunt says as he presents his Autumn Statement to parliament. Gross domestic product will expand 0.6 percent in 2023, Hunt said citing the Office for Budget Responsibility fiscal watchdog, upgrading its prior forecast of minus 0.2 percent. GDP is then set to grow by 0.7 percent in 2024, which was sharply down from previous guidance for a 1.8-percent expansion. SOUNDBITE
The United Auto Workers (UAW) chief calls on 7,000 more workers to join a historic strike against the top three US car manufacturers at noon on Friday. UAW President Shawn Fain calls on the workers at Ford and General Motors (GM) plants in Chigaco and Michigan to join the first ever strike at the "Big Three" Detroit automakers -- Ford, GM and Stellantis -- as the union pushes for improved conditions across the board.
