The Zoo of Copenhagen has released footage of a baby elephant which was born last week in captivity as part of a European breeding program for Asian elephants. The mother is 16 year old Maha Kumari and the fathers name is Fahim. The name and gender of the baby elephant aren't known yet. Calves weight in beetween 70 and 90kg at birth after spending 22 months in their mothers wombs, the longest gestation in the animal kindom. Crates containing two endangered giant pandas are loaded onto a plane as they return to China after 12 years in the United Kingdom at Edinburgh Zoo in Scotland. It had been hoped female panda Tian Tian ("Sweetie") and male Yang Guang ("Sunshine") would breed while at the zoo, but they did not produce a cub. The pair are flying back to Chengdu where they will live at a wildlife sanctuary. IMAGES
The United States is sending a new batch of military assistance to Ukraine, with the $450 million shipment including more rocket systems to use against Russian invasion forces. "This package contains weapons and equipment, including new High Mobility Artillery Rocket systems," National Security Council Coordinator for Strategic Communications John Kirby says at a White House briefing. The giant panda Tian Tian, on loan from China to the Washington Zoo, is busy in his pen the day after the birth of the baby panda he had with Mei Xiang. She was artificially inseminated on March 22 with Tian Tian's frozen semen. IMAGES
Mei Xiang, Washington DC National Zoo's female giant panda, gave birth to a cub and is caring for it, the zoo announces. "Mei Xiang picked the cub up immediately and began cradling and caring for it," the Zoo staff said in a statement. IMAGES
