DIMANCHE 15 SEPTEMBRE A 21H05 Le 23 juin 2016, pour la première fois de l’histoire, un pays décide de quitter l’Union européenne. Mais huit ans après, aucune des promesses du Brexit n’a été tenue. Confrontés à une profonde crise économique et sociale, les Britanniques sont nombreux à penser que ce départ a été une erreur. Une sombre colère traverse la société, toutes générations confondues, aussi bien chez ceux qui ont voté pour le Brexit que chez ceux qui ont voté pour rester dans l’Union européenne. Six ans après avoir réalisé un premier film sur le Brexit, le réalisateur franco-britannique Thomas Johnson et le correspondant à Londres du journal « Le Monde » Eric Albert mènent l’enquête pour comprendre les raisons de ce profond séisme. Ils sont partis à la rencontre des acteurs et des témoins de ce bouleversement politique. Cinq premiers ministres se succèdent en huit ans, dont quatre démissionnent avec fracas, incapables de tenir leurs promesses populistes. Du jamais vu dans l’histoire du Royaume-Uni. The leader of Reform UK and Brexit figurehead Nigel Farage launches his campaign for Britain's upcoming general election on July 4 in Clacton-on-Sea, where he will run to be local MP. Speaking to hundreds of gathered supporters, he says "we want to put voices in Westminster that truly believe in Britain." IMAGES
Nigel Farage says he will stand as a candidate for the anti-immigration Reform UK party at the UK general election next month, after initially ruling out running. "I have changed my mind... I am going to stand," Farage, 60, told a news conference. Farage, a Eurosceptic politician and now a television presenter, campaigned for decades for Britain's withdrawal from the European Union and was a key figure in the 2016 Brexit referendum. He is a former leader of the Brexit Party and the anti-immigration party UKIP. SOUNDBITE
The European Commission proposes a three-year delay on tariffs on electric vehicles that are sold to, or imported from, Britain that was due to apply from January. The commission, the EU's executive arm, says it decided a one-off extension after the automotive industry raised concerns about the massive costs that would arise from a post-Brexit 10-percent tariff.
